Primavera Siciliana – Villa Romana del Casale

After a few days in Cefalù, I crossed the center of the island to Agrigento on the southern coast. Along the way I stopped to see a world heritage site called ‘Villa Romana del Casale’ near Piazza Armerina. It is one of the very best archaeological sites for Roman mosaics yet unearthed. The owner must have been quite wealthy. All of the floors were covered with intricate mosaics. It is magnificent.

The baths had hot water running under the floors to keep them warm.

These channels were for water control to the villa’s baths. I am not sure what the process was, but it seems pretty sophisticated.
